FAQ

We understand that being a new member at a club can be a bit scary sometimes - so we have put together some key questions and answers to help you get to know your way around the club!

Who's who?

The Club is mainly run by the elected Committee.  A list of Committee members for the current season is posted on the Club Notice Board.  There are usually a few committee members floating around the club, so please feel free to ask any of them for assistance.

How will I know what is happening?

The Club's key information source is our website which will be kept updated   The notice boards in the Clubhouse are also good information sources, and there is also a regular newsletter which will be emailed or posted to you.  You can check the website Notice Board for upcoming events.

What organized events are there?

We run organized tennis and social events throughout the year.  Dates will be put on the Notice Board and in the newsletter.  Some of the regular events open to members include:

Senior Club Nights:

This is our weekly social tennis night where people of all levels play together.  They are held throughout the year on Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (unless tournaments or special events are scheduled - which you are encouraged to enter).  Just come along, give your name to the organiser and join in!

Senior Interclub

For competitive players, we have interclub teams in singles and doubles grades.   Interclub is usually played every second week (weekends for doubles, weeknights for singles).  Teams are usually finalised around early September.  If you are interested in playing or filling in as a reserve, please contact our Interclub Captain listed on our Contacts page.

Junior Tennis

Juniors range from 5 to 17 years.  Free coaching is provided every Monday afternoon. Junior interclub is played on Friday nights or weekends, depending on the age group.  Contact our Junior Organiser on our Contacts page to find out more.

Midweek Tennis

Midweek Interclub is restricted to women only.   Contact our Midweek Representative on our Contacts page to find out more.

Tournaments and Club Champs

You do not have to be a superstar to play in club tournaments - everyone is encouraged to play!  Turnout is usually pretty good, and they are fun and a good way of improving your game and getting to know other members.  For club champs events, there is a plate competition if you get knocked out in the first round.  Have a go - you might surprise yourself!

Social Events

We hold different types of events throughout the year, such as prizegiving, quiz nights and other fun events.  Keep an eye on the Notice Board.

Can I use the Courts at any time?

For a fee, club members receive a key to the courts and the clubhouse.  Apart from when organised events, coaching or interclub team practices are being held, you are free to use the courts anytime.  Please remember to switch the lights off after playing, as they are very expensive to run!

Visitors may use the courts if accompanied by a member.  Members are responsible for collecting their visitors fees.  An honesty box is placed inside the clubhouse for all fees, which are only $5.00 per person per hour.

What can I do to help the Club?

You can help the club in several different ways, such as:

Joining the Committee - We are a volunteer club - we do everything ourselves, so the more people we have helping out, the better it is for everyone.  Please be proactive in supporting your club.

Introducing New Members  -Encourage friends and family to join.

Helping at working bees - A few times a year, we ask members to attend working bees to keep the courts and the clubhouse looking good.

Caring for our Clubhouse - If you are using the clubhouse please make sure it is kept tidy, especially in the kitchen.  Please ensure all glasses are washed, dried and put away.  Windows and doors should be shut before leaving.   Court and clubhouse lights should be turned off.

Supporting our fund raising efforts - To maintain and improve the club facilities, we need to raise money each year.  Please support our raffles, social events and other fundraising activities.  The committee will welcome any new fundraising ideas.

Bag packing Fundraiser

Supporting our Sponsors - We ask members to support club sponsors.  If you have any contacts that could lead to new sponsorship, please inform the Committee.

Making Donations - If you are able to donate your time or services to the club, please inform the Committee.  Donations of raffle prizes and/or equipment to the club are also gratefully appreciated.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact a Committee member.
